Clinical Consultation

Clinical consultation is offered to counsellors and service providers who are seeking ongoing clinical support and feedback, or guidance in the face of a difficult situation. Consultation is a form of professional development, and it also can offer an essential “second opinion”. Finally, clinical consultation offers ongoing support that reduces the risk of burnout and/or the impact of vicarious traumatization which enhances services and professional longevity. The approach is collaborative and emphasizes insight into one’s clients and oneself, critical awareness of the client’s sociocultural experience—in their life and in their view of the counsellor—and skill development in a range of therapeutic approaches. The standard procedure is regular consultations and availability for urgent calls at any other possible time.
